New developments in Estepona
Since the property market on the Costa del Sol first sprang back to life again some years ago, the main focus of new development has been in the Estepona area. Problems with planning directives and accompanying delays in obtaining building licences have reduced the amount of construction in Marbella, along with a shortage of suitable land, and shifted the bulk of new development in the area to Benahavis, Ojén, Mijas Costa and above all Estepona, where there are no planning issues and construction land is more freely available.
It has been a boon for the region, and as a result new development is now flanking Marbella rather than being concentrated within it, which in the general scheme of things spreads the benefits of investment in the Costa del Sol more evenly than before. Having earlier embarked upon a successful beautification programme of the historic centre, Estepona town hall has been keen to work with developers, but not just to build and create jobs. The mayor and his team want to ensure that the area embraces quality rather than quantity, and indeed, many of the new developments under construction right now within Estepona and its New Golden Mile are clearly making it an increasingly upmarket destination.
Luxury new developments in Estepona
Among the most luxurious new developments on the New Golden Mile – or indeed anywhere in Marbella – is Emare, a luxury beachfront apartment and penthouse complex that takes opulence and beachside privilege to a new level. It’s no overstatement to say that Amaré offers villa standards right by the sea.
The Edge is another upmarket development, this time on the west side of Estepona, close to the marina. Designed by prominent architect Rafael de la Hoz, this sleek sea-fronting development of beautifully styled, luxurious apartments and penthouses similarly offers prime comfort within an environment of privacy, security and landscaped elegance. There are even some beach villas within the complex.
The fact that The Island is another exclusive modern development in a frontline beach location goes a long way to explaining Estepona’s popularity. Such locations are extremely rare and expensive in Marbella right now, making living in a beautiful seaside gated community of modern deluxe semi-townhouses far more accessible in this part of the coast.
For those who want to be closer to the centre, South Bay is the ideal option, offering modern boutique style luxury and amenities within waking distance of the historic centre, marina and beaches of Estepona. The Belfry Nordic Collection, on the other hand, is a prestigious gated community of luxury villas in a rather more suburban setting just north of the Golden Mile and close to golf, confirming that there is a broad choice not just of new-build properties within the Estepona area, but more also of upmarket ones.
