Marbella attracts Four Seasons luxury resort!

The Four Seasons hotel chain is one of the most famous and luxurious in the world. Now, the luxury tourism brand is building a €600-million resort in Marbella, on 400,000m2 of beachfront in the exclusive Los Monteros area, to the east of the town. Ricardo Arranz, whose family also has the Villa Padierna hotel, owns the massive plot of land.

According to details in the press, Four Seasons will manage the resort, which will also bear the brand’s name. It will have a 200-room hotel, private residences and villas, plus an array of internationally famous restaurants that are coming to Spain exclusively to be part of this project.

Richard Meier is the architect for the development. He is a US architect of international renown and a former Pritzker Prize winner. His Douglas House, perched above Lake Michigan, is on the USA’s Register of Historic Places and his Bauhaus-influenced style has created some distinctive buildings across the world. It will be interesting to see what he designs for the Marbella waterfront.

As yet construction hasn’t begun on the hotel part of the project as the team are waiting for building licences. However, the first stone was laid on 5th October as a licence has been granted to start work on one of the most distinctive features of this project: a tunnel passing under the motorway connecting the hotel and private residences of the inland side of Los Monteros – Rio Real to the beach. A selection of local dignitaries were present at this auspicious occasion including Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (WTO), Zurab Polo-likashvili, the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Susana Díaz, Marbella Mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, Regional Tourism Minister, Javier Fernández and Elías Bendodo, president of the Regional Diputación

The arrival of a brand as highly regarded as Four Seasons in Marbella means a significant boost for the coast and its economy, and Arranz believes it will be a major force in combatting seasonality, thus promoting Marbella as a year round destination.
